SINGAPORE – Mr. John Cheng takes over. As chairman of the Feed 9 Billion open innovation platform, he hopes to find a sustainable solution to feed the world’s population, which is expected to reach nine billion by 2050.

The 39-year-old founder of Innovate 360, a food start-up accelerator, supports local businesses and helps them grow.

Mr. Cheng, who is also the director of the family-owned sugar manufacturing company Cheng Yew Heng, is passionate about food innovation and sustainability, and emphasizes that collaboration is essential.

“I hope Singapore can attract global companies and start-ups and be seen as a hub of innovation, create real change and impact the world,” he said.

Innovate 360 ​​provides start-ups with offices, kitchens, and manufacturing facilities, as well as opportunities for networking, mentoring, and collaboration with other businesses.

Since its creation in 2018, more than 40 start-ups have joined it.

Mr. Cheng also spent time sharing his knowledge and skills by volunteering with the North West Community Development Council, the Singapore Management University Philanthropic Council, and the Youth Business Affairs Committee of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry. from Singapore, among others.

He also founded Food Culture Singapore, an e-commerce platform to showcase local brands and help start-ups reach a larger market in Singapore and around the world.

The platform was launched on National Day with around 30 brands and aims to reach 100 by the end of the year.

He said: “Everyone we know has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic… Rather than focusing only on our own brands, we have decided to help other brands.”
